A grown-up sets it up. Nothing is collected about a child until a
parent has verified they are an adult, and a PIN keeps settings, history and
purchases out of reach.
Answers pitched to an age, not an average. A parent chooses 4–6,
7–9 or 10–12, and the same question gets a different answer in each.
Homework help that refuses to do the homework. It breaks a problem
into steps and asks the next one back.
Voice stays on the phone. Speech becomes text on the device; the
audio is never sent anywhere and never saved.
The camera is off until you turn it on, points away from your
child, and deletes any photo with a person in it before anything is sent.
You can read everything. Every question and answer, plus a written
summary of your child's day if you want one.
No ads, no advertising identifiers, no analytics, no tracking.
Questions are deleted after 90 days, and you can delete them sooner.
Privacy
Smarts complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
We obtain a parent's verifiable consent before collecting anything from a child, collect
only a nickname and an age range — never a birthdate, a full name, a school or a
location — and let a parent see and delete all of it at any time. We do not sell or
share a child's information.
Smarts is a computer program, not a person. The owl is an AI that writes each answer,
the app says so on the screen where a child asks their questions, and Smarts says so
itself if asked.
